Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Graduate School Admissions (TIFR GS) 2022 is basically done via a nationwide entrance examination conducted by Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) for admissions into Ph.D, Integrated M.Sc-Ph.D as well as M.Sc degree in certain subjects. How to Apply for TIFR GS 2022:

All candidates with the required eligibility criteria can fill in the TIFR GS 2022 application form. Here is the step-to-step procedure on how to apply for TIFR GS 2022. Also, fill in the application form using a PC or laptop as some links remain invisible on mobile browsers.

Step 1: Open the student login section of the TIFR GS 2022official website.

Step 2: For new registration fill in all the personal details carefully. Enter your mobile number and Email Id correctly as the further communication will be via SMS and Mail. Also remember that personal details once entered ( such as name, date of birth, mobile number, email id, SSC details, subject, the program selected, etc.)  can not be changed and any duplicate registration is not allowed by the system.

Step 3: After filling in all the details and registering successfully, you will be given an application number or User Id which is to be saved for future logins.

Step 4: You will also receive your application number or User Id via SMS. Your login link for application and password will be sent via your registered mail id. (Check Spam folder if no mail is found in the mail)

Step 5: Now, you can log in through the link received in the mail where you will be redirected to a page there go to the top-right corner. There you will see the “go-to application” option, click on that. ( Use a Laptop or PC to view this link. It may be invisible on mobile browsers).

Step 6: Then enter all the remaining personal details and your educational qualification details in the application form.

Step 7: Now, upload your required documents such as photograph and signature following the image specifications of TIFR GS.

Step 8: Select your payment mode online or you can select the fee waiver option in case of any financial distress. For fee waiver mode you need to upload a letter or request from HOD or Principal which is signed and stamped.

Step 9: After selecting the mode of payment tick the declaration. Next, Preview your application form before making the application fee payment through your selected mode of payment. Preview all the details, check them thoroughly, and click on submit button.

Step 10: After submitting you will be redirected to a payment gateway to pay the application fee. Make the payment carefully with patience as the payment may take a while.( Please do not refresh the page during payment)

Step 11: After completion of filling the application form take the print of your application form or save it as a pdf file and store it for further use.

Note: All candidates are requested to read the instructions carefully before they start filling the application form online. Any student should not be submitting multiple registrations for the same subject. They are informed to submit separate application fees for each subject and also their online test timings do not clash.

TIFR GS 2022 Eligibility

Here is the Eligibility for TIFR GS 2022.

For Mathematics:

For Ph.D.:  Candidates with M.A, M.Sc, M.Math, M.Stat, M.E, and M.Tech are eligible to apply.

For I-Ph.D (or Integrated Ph.D.): Candidates with B.A, B.Sc, B.Math, B.Stat, B.E, B.Tech (The students who have a Master’s degree by July 2022 are not eligible to apply).

For Physics:

For Ph.D.: Candidates with M.Sc, M.S in Physicsor an equivalent degree are eligible to apply. ( These program (s) completion duration should not be not less than 5 years)

For I-Ph.D: Candidates with M.E, M.Tech, B.Sc, B.S, B.E, B.Tech, and B.Chem in Physics, Engineering Physics, or any equivalent degree are also eligible to apply. (These program (s) completion duration should not be less than 3 years)

Any other candidates with degrees in Science, Engineering, Medicine, or any equivalent can also apply. (These program (s) completion duration should not be less than 3 years)

For Chemistry:

For Ph.D.: Candidates with M.Sc, B.E, B.Tech, M.Pharm, or an equivalent degree are eligible to apply.
For I-Ph.D.: Candidates with B.Sc, B.Pharm, B.S degree, or an equivalent degree are eligible to apply.
Also candidates with B.E, B.Tech degrees, who are enrolled in the Ph.D. program, canoptionally get an M.Sc. degree by fulfilling extra requirements optionally.

For Biology:

The candidates are going to be shortlisted as per interview based on the written test, CV, letters of recommendation, and scientific write-up.

For Ph.D.: Candidates with Masters in Basic Science such as M.Sc. Physics or Chemistry or Mathematics or a branch of Biology), or any professional Master’s Degree such as M.Pharma or M.Tech or any greater than 4-year degree program such as MBBS, BDS are eligible to apply.

Any candidates having a degree in M.Sc in a non-Biology-allied discipline such as Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, who wish to pursue M.Sc Biology will also be offered enrollment option in I-Ph.D. program at the time of joining.

For I-Ph.D./M.Sc
: Candidates having a bachelor’s degree in any Basic Science program such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, any branch of Biology, Or any 4-year degree program which gives a bachelor’s degree, including B.Tech., B.E., B.V.Sc., B.Pharma (4-year course) are eligible to apply.

For M.Sc (Wildlife Biology & Conservation): Candidates with Indian nationality who have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50% in core subjects, and a strong interest in wildlife research and conservation are eligible to apply.

Also Graduate nationals from Central, South, and Southeast Asian countries, with any other similar qualifications, are also eligible to apply.

For Computer & Systems Sciences (including Communications and Machine Learning):

For Ph.D. : Th candidates with B.Tech, B.E, B.Sc (4-year degree) or M.Tech, M.E, M.C.A, M.Sc or an equivalent degree in Computer Science, Electronics & Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering or any related branches are eligible to apply.

Some candidates who are exceptionally well qualified with a B.Tech, B.E, B.Sc (4-year degree), and M.Tech, M.E, M.Sc and degree in other disciplines may also be considered. (Candidates who do not have a master’s degree can obtain an M.Sc. degree by fulfilling the requirements during their Ph.D. program)

For I-Ph.D. : Candidates with B.Sc (3-year degree) or any other 3-year degree in Computer Science, Electronics & Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related branches are eligible to apply.

Some candidates who are exceptionally well qualified with a 3-year undergraduate degree (B.Sc.) in related subjects may be considered for the I-Ph.D. program. (Candidates in the I-Ph.D. program will need to fulfill the requirements for both an M.Sc. and Ph.D. After completing them successfully, they will receive both the degrees)


TIFR conducts exams for Biology namely the Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS). TIFR GS 2022 Exam Pattern

The exam pattern for TIFR GS 2022 is different according to the subjects. So, here is the subject-wise exam pattern of TIFR GS 2022.

Note: The official website has not specified any pattern for TIFR GS 2022 in their website. The following pattern is based on the Last year’s question papers of TIFR GS.

For Mathematics

The questions for Mathematics will be divided into 2 parts. And the first part consists of 20 multiple choice questions, and the second part consists of 20 True or false questions.

For Physics:

The number of questions for Physics is 40 multiple-choice questions. In Physics two sections are given where 3 marks are awarded for the correct answer in section A, and 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer. Whereas for Section B, 5 marks are awarded for each correct answer and there is no negative marking.

For Chemistry:

The number of questions for Chemistry is 40 multiple-choice questions. For Chemistry 3 marks will be awarded for each correct answer, and 1 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. The duration of the exam is 3 hours.

For Biology:

There are 3 sections, general, physics, and chemistry. There are 15 multiple choice questions in each section. The duration of the exam is 3 hours.

For Computer and Systems Sciences:

There are two sections Part A and Part B. 15 multiple choice questions are given in each section.

Books and Preparation Tips for TIFR GS 2022

The syllabus for TIFR GS 2022 is based on the subjects studied by students in their under graduation or master’s according to their choice of program. The question paper covers all the basic questions in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Sciences. So, there are no specific books or guides for TIFR GS preparation. Students are advised to go through the basics studied in their choice of programs.
