5 Key Highlights of NTA Chairman Interview on NEET 2021
Here are major points that can be induced from the interview of NTA Director – Dr. Vineet Joshi for NEET 2021:
#1. NEET 2021 aspirants have to be careful while answering questions in the exam – Unlike CBTs, the advantage of changing answers for NEET 2021 will not be available, as neet 2021 will be an offline exam. MoHFW has argued earlier that converting NEET to an online format is not a good idea at very short notice. Being the only UG medical entrance exam of the nation, taking this risk is not feasible at this moment.
#2. Nature of NEET 2021 question paper: NTA is focusing on the more application-oriented question paper. The aim is not to make the paper difficult by creating a test of higher level, but the aim is to challenge the candidates by making a question paper format that is of the student’s level but have questions that bring three-four concepts together.
#3. Focus on NCERT for NEET 2021: As quoted by Vineet Joshi in the interview with TOI:
“Unfortunately, what we have been doing so far in most of our exams is that we raised the difficulty level. This leads to candidates getting frustrated. They do not take much interest in whatever they are learning inside the classroom and also feel that whatever is being learned inside the classroom is useless.”
NTA is now trying to avoid this. Thus, students must focus on learning the concepts and their applications and be strong with the basics. Therefore students have to focus on NCERT more. Also, candidates have to focus on what is being taught in the classrooms.
#4. NEET can be computer-based in the future: Although this year NEET will be an offline exam, but as per the interview of the director-general of NTA, Dr Vineet Joshi, it is highly likely that NEET can be held online in the future.
Dr Vineet Joshi highlighted the cons of the CBTs, stating that:
- Candidates have the freedom and the flexibility to change their answers in the exam.
- CBTs have the advantage where candidates can utilise the exact time allotted for the exam – not less not more.
- Since organising the CBTs requires fewer logistics, the tests can be held in more and more cities.
- Also, the declaration of result take lesser time in CBTs and hence the tests can be held more than once a year, due to the same reason.
#5. NEET 2021 in multiple languages: NEET has been held in 11 languages in the past years. These languages are – English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu. As per Dr. Vineet joshi
“For NEET, we have conducted it for 16 lakh candidates in 11 languages. So, doing such a big examination in these many languages is the first of its kind globally.”
This year NTA is also conducting JEE Main 2021 in multiple languages. JEE Main 2021 is being held in 13 languages – English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu.
Thus, it can be expected that NEET might be held in Punjabi and Malayalam language too in addition to the 11 languages it has been held till last year.
When is NTA Releasing NEET 2021 Application Form?
Dr. Vineet Joshi failed to throw any light on the NEET application form 2021 releasing date.
As per news reports, it was expected that NEET 2021 application form will release on March 15. However, it did not happen.
NTA will hold NEET 2021 in offline mode and the NEET 2021 syllabus will not be changing this year. The exam will take place on August 01, 2021, at the national level.
