NEST Syllabus 2021
It is very important for candidates to know the syllabus of the exam they are appearing for. A syllabus contains a reading list of relevant books and topics that a students is required to read. NEST syllabus will include topics and units based on which the paper for the entrance test will be set. It is important for the candidates to go through the syllabus and familiarize themselves with the syllabus so that they can get clarity of what all subjects they need to cover. NEST 2021 is conducted for 5 sections General Section, Physiics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Candidates can read the article to know more about NEST 2021 syllabus.
There is no prescribed syllabus for General section. The aim of the exam is to test candidates aptitude for a career in science. Candidates can check below the detailed syllabus for every section.
Note – NISER will soon release NEST 2021 syllabus. Given below is the expected syllabus of NEST 2021 on the basis of last year’s syllabus.
NEST Syllabus 2021 – General
Candidates can check below the syllabus for General section IN NEST 2020.
- There is no specific syllabus for the General section.
- Questions are designed to test the candidate’s familiarity with (and not a detailed understanding of) major historical milestones in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, computer science and environmental studies.
- There will be some questions designed to test the grasp of mathematics up to 10th standard and application capabilities of the same to simple problems.
- Some questions in this section aim to test the candidate’s general ability to comprehend qualitative and quantitative aspects of a given scientific passage. This is done by giving a passage on some scientific topic and questions based on the concepts elaborated in the passage will be asked.
- Some questions may aim to find whether the candidates can interpret graphical and/or tabular representation of information.

Weightage of Topics from NEST 2021 syllabus

- Mode of Examination – Computer Based Exam
- Duration of Examination – 3 hours 30 min
- Type of Question – Multiple Choice Type Questions
- Number of Sections in Exam – 5 section
- Marking Pattern – +3 for correct answers and -1 for wrong ones in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. There is no negative marking in the general section.

About NEST 2021
There are two participating institutes in NEST 2021 – National Institute of Science Education and Research and University of Mumbai – Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences Candidates who take admission in NISER or UM-DAE CEBS through NEST exam 2021 are eligible for a scholarship through INSPIRE program of Dept of Science and Technology, or DISHA of Dept of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences. Those who get scholarship shall also get a grant of Rs 20,000 per annum for a summer internship.
