Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank held the live webinar under #EducationMinisterGoesLive initiative today, on December 10, 2020, at 10 AM. In his live meet, he addressed some queries of students and other stakeholders of the education space regarding board exams, JEE Main 2021, and NEET 2021.
In the 1 hour long meeting / webinar, a lot was said about the achievements of the Education Ministry, Health Ministry since the pandemic took hold of the nation. However most student queries were on the future – board exam 2021 (dates / postponement / cancellation), JEE Main 2021 (date, application form date, syllabus reduction, 3rd attempt for jee advanced), and NEET 2021 (date, exam online/offline, cancelled or not, syllabus reduction, application form release).

NEET 2021 Latest News by The Education Minister
#1. NEET 2021 to be held offline or online
Most important information given by the Education Minister is that so far NEET is held offline. However, since so many queries / suggestions are pouring on conducting NEET in online mode, the ministry shall consider the request. After a thorough consideration, that most suitable mode of exam shall be finalized.
- Adding to this, the minister stated that even in the mid of the pandemic Govt. conducted NEET in offline mode only safely and that is one of the biggest successes so far.
#2. NEET 2021 will not be cancelled
On a query of a students, Dr. Pokhriyal said that NEET 2021 shall not be cancelled. He again pointed out that the exam was held successfully during the peak of the pandemic. Hence, there is no point in cancelling it now.
- If NEET 2021 will be postponed or not – that shall depend on the situation but the exam will not be cancelled.
- The minister further elaborated that cancelling NEET will be unfair to the students who have been studying vary hard for the exam and aim to take admission in medical courses.
#3. NEET 2021 syllabus reduced or not?
For the syllabus of NEET 2021, the minister said that CBSE has reduced boards syllabus by 30% but other boards have not. Hence, NTA and Education Ministry are evaluating the revised syllabus of NEET, which should be suitable for students of all the boards and is not unfair to any student.
#4. NEET 2021 exam date, application form date
The exam date for NEET 2021 is under discussion. Education ministry and NTA are working out all the possibility to announce exam date as soon as possible, so that students get ample time to prepare for the exam.
Basically this means that NEET 2021 exam date, application form dates have not been decided yet. So all candidates will have to wait further for a decision on this. Most probably NTA will make an announcement on the NEET 2021 dates soon at ntaneet.nic.in.
JEE Main 2021 Latest News by The Education Minister
On December 10, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank went live and provided these important information on JEE Main 2021.
#1. JEE Main 2021 Exam Date, Application Form Date
The exam date for JEE Main 2021 has not been decided yet. Education ministry and NTA are discussing it and shall announce it soon.
- However, earlier this month, NTA Director General, Vineet Joshi informed that JEE Main 2021 will not be held in January but sometime in February or so.
All in all, this only shows that JEE Main 2021 exam date, application form date are undecided. They may depend on board exam dates to a large extent. NTA will probably announce something related to it soon at jeemain.nta.nic.in.
#2. JEE Main 2021 syllabus reduced?
The ministry earlier directed NTA to revise the syllabus of JEE Main 2021 and since then candidates have been expecting reduction in it. In the live meet, the minister said that CBSE syllabus has been reduced by 30%. However, there are few boards which have not reduced the syllabus. Hence, syllabus of JEE Main 2021 is also under discussion.
#3. Can JEE Main 2021 be held 3-4 times a year?
A query from a student demanded that JEE Main 2021 be held multiple times so that students get more opportunities to take the test. On this, the minister said that it is a valid idea and the possibility of conducting JEE Main 3 – 4 a year can be considered.
Note: He just said that the possibility of hold JEE 3-4 times can be considered. It does not mean that JEE Main will be held multiple times.
Also, on social media, student have been demanding JEE Advanced 3rd attempt. Hence, it is now unclear if he was talking about JEE (Mains) to be increased to 3-4 times a year, or JEE (Advanced) attempts to be increased. However, he was vague on this point.
