NEET 2021 Meeting Update: What decision was taken on exam date, registration, mode, frequency of NEET UG?

The gist of reports on today (yesterday / 25 Jan) supposed meeting on NEET 2021 is this: The meeting was supposedly a private meeting. And the details of discussions in it, and conclusions of it are not to be shared at the moment. If any official update on it will come, it will be vide official channels like through Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank’s twitter handle, or press release from Ministry of Education, or NTA website nta.ac.in, or NEET UG website ntaneet.nic.in.

What happened in the meeting on NEET 2021 on 25 Jan 

There is no update on the meeting officially. Even news reports are silent about it. 

A short video on a youtube channel with a few thousand subscribers reported that the meeting was a private one and its details are not being shared publicly. On the basis of this report, other NEET UG youtubers, youtuber teachers, and mid-scale reports are based. However there is no concrete on the meeting.

At this point, questions also arise as to whether the meeting was held at all. That the meeting will happen was first reported in Times of India, and later picked up by other newspapers and channels. 

Teachers and NEET UG mentors are now advising students to stay away from the panic inducing news stories on the exam and instead focus on the preparations. Last year also there was a lot of chaos surrounding the exam date, and then its postponement.

Nevertheless the disappointment of students on the radio silence over NEET 2021 exam date, application form release, and other aspects is evident. Not one hour goes by when multiple tweets do not come from various quarters requesting the officials to announce details of the medical entrance exam.

With no word from officials, everything is open to speculation. However it is important to encapsulate the key details of NEET UG 2021 that were supposedly discussed today:

  1. Will NEET 2021 be conducted twice a year?
  2. Will the exam be held online or offline?
  3. What will be the exam date or dates?
  4. When will registration and application form of NEET 2021 be released?
  5. Will there be a change in exam pattern to include optional questions?

What next?

If reports are to be believed then the meeting did happen. And soon, probably after Republic Day, details of decisions taken in it will be announced. 

As of now the most probable first point of information on NEET 2021 is expected to be the Education Minister’s twitter handle – where Dr. Nishank posts multiple updates on various topics throughout the day. He can be reached at @DrRPNishank.

Analysis of board exam dates show that if NEET 2021 is held only once, then the exam date has to be by end of June. However if the exam happens multiple times then it will be in May, June or June, July. 

The application form is expected to be released soon, in January itself, or at max by February. 

NEET 2021 is India’s only medical entrance exam. Through it, admission will be offered to more than 77,000 MBBS seats, and around 30,000 BDS seats. Besides, admission in AYUSH UG courses will also be on the basis of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. The National Testing Agency is responsible for holding the exam. 

Last year a total of 15,97,435 candidates had applied for the exam. 13,66,945 had appeared. From them, 7,71,500 had qualified.
