Important: LSAT India Admit Card 2021

LSAT India is an entrance examination through which candidates can pursue courses like 3 year LLB, 5 year Integrated LLB and LLM from the law colleges of India. Note that LSAT India does not include the questions that require the mastery of any specific discipline or set of facts. In other words, it does not test the knowledge of history, political theory, mathematics or even general knowledge. Rather, it is designed to tests the critical thinking skills that candidates have acquired over their educational journey.

LSAT India Syllabus 2021 – All Topics

(1) Analytical Reasoning Syllabus

  • The questions in this section are basically designed in such a way that they assess the ability of the candidates to consider a group of facts and rules and determine what could be true from these.
  • The scenarios of these questions are generally unrelated to the law. However, the skills that are tested are in relation to determine what could be the case given a set of regulations, the facts of a legal case in relation to law or the facts of any legal case.
  • The questions are generally framed in such a way that the candidates are asked to reason deductively from set of statements or rules or principles which describe the relationship among persons, events or things.
  • The questions of Analytical Reasoning appear in sets where each set is based on a single passage.
  • The passage which is used for each set of question describes the common ordering relationships or grouping relationships or a combination of both the relationships.

What type of Deductive-Reasoning Skills are Tested Through Analytical Reasoning Questions?

  • Understanding the basic structure of relationships by giving a solution to the problem given (For instance, an acceptable seating arrangement of all six diplomats sitting around a table
  • Inferring what could be true or must be true from given facts and rules
  • Reasoning with condition if-then statements and recognizing logically equivalent formulations
  • Inferring what could be true or must be true from given facts and rules with additional information or substitute fact or rule
  • Recognizing when two statements can be logically equivalent in context by identifying a rule which could replace any one original conditions while still giving the same possible outcomes

In short, Analytical Reasoning questions reflects the kind of analysis of relationships and set of constraints that law students must perform in legal problem-solving.

(2) Logical Reasoning Syllabus

Analyzing arguments is a noteworthy element of legal analysis. So, the law students should imbibe the skills of analyzing, constructing, evaluating, and refuting arguments. They should be able to identify what information is apt for the argument and what impact further evidence might have. Furthermore, they must be able to reconcile opposing positions and use arguments to persuade others.

Basically, Logical Reasoning questions evaluate the candidate’s ability to:

  • Analyse
  • Critically Evaluate
  • Complete the arguments

What are the questions based on? The Logical Reasoning questions are based on short arguments drawn from various sources like newspapers, advertisements, general interest magazines, scholarly publications and informal discourse.

Logical Reasoning Questions are designed in such a way that they assess the wide range of critical thinking abilities of the candidates with an emphasis on other skills that are central to Legal Reasoning. These skills include:

  • Identifying Explanations
  • Reasoning By Analogy
  • Recognizing the parts of the arguments and their relationships
  • Drawing well-supported conclusions
  • Detecting assumptions made by particular arguments
  • Identifying flaws in arguments
  • Recognising points of misunderstanding and dis-agreement
  • Identifying and applying various rules or principles
  • Determining how additional evidence affects an argument

(3) Reading Comprehension Syllabus

The basic purpose of Reading Comprehension section in LSAT India is to check the candidate’s ability to read with understanding and insight.

  • Reading Comprehension contains 4 sets of reading questions where each set consists of a selection of reading material that has 5-8 questions.
  • The Reading selection in 3 of the 4 sets comprises of a single reading passage, the other set contains two smaller passages
  • Sets with two passages are varieties of Reading Comprehension passages known as Comparative Reading
  • Reading selection of Reading Comprehension questions are drawn from the subjects like Humanities, Social Sciences, Biological and Physical Sciences fields, and law-related areas.
  • The questions from Reading Comprehension require you to read carefully, determine the relationship among various parts of reading selection and draw reasonable inferences.

The questions in Reading Comprehension may ask the below given characterstics of a passage:

  • Main idea of the passage
  • Ideas that can be inferred
  • Information that is explictly given
  • Organisation of structure
  • Principles that function in the selection
  • Attitude of author as reflected in the passage
  • Meaning or purpose of words used
  • Impact of new information on claims or arguments

  • Since the passages in Reading Comprehension are framed from various disciplines so do not be discouraged after seeing them. Just keep in mind to answer these questions, you have to go through the passage carefully.
  • Read the passage very closely, get a deep understanding of what the author or paragraph is saying and then start answering.
  • Read the questions first, then read the selection and then return to the questions.
  • Apply the skimming method so as to read the questions and passage very quickly. Then, re-read the selection and answer the question.
  • Try to differentiate the main ideas from the supporting ideas.
  • Identify the ideas between different ideas or parts of a passage.
  • You can also underline the important points of the passage while reading it.

Tips for Analytical Reasoning

  • Read the passage carefully.
  • While reading the conditions, do not introduce unwarranted assumptions.
  • When you’re in doubt, read the conditions in their most obvious sense.
  • Keep in mind the independence in relation to a question. No information must be carried over from one set to another.

Tips for Logical Reasoning

  • Try to read every question carefully. Make sure that you know what each part of the question is saying.
  • Try not to pick a response simply because it is a true statement. It might be true but it may not answer the question.
  • Answer each question according to the information provided, even if you do not agree with it.

Some General Tips

  • Time-Management: Even while solving the questions at the time of preparation, be conscious of the time as each section has a time limit. To learn the time-management technique, practice as many previous year question papers and sample papers as much as you can.
