National Testing Agency (NTA) has made few significant changes in the pattern and aspirants of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2021 must know these. The question paper of JEE Main 2021 will be entirely based on the new JEE Main exam pattern. You can check it from below.

Mode of JEE Main 2021
JEE Main 2021 will only be a computer based test. Paper wise the modes are
- Paper 1 – Will be completely computer based test.
- Paper 2 A – In this, Part 3, which is the Drawing Test will be held offline, as pen and paper. Candidates have to take the test on an A-4 sheet, which shall be provided at the center.
- Paper 2B – Will also be completely computer based test.
Duration of JEE Main 2021
The duration of JEE Main 2021 is 3 hours only. However, PwD candidates get 1 hour extra.
Type of Questions in JEE Main 2021
Questions in JEE Main 2021 Paper 1, Paper 2A, and Paper 2B will be of 3 types. You can check it for all the papers below.
- Multiple choice questions (MCQ) are such type of questions will come with 4 options of which one will be the correct option. The candidates have to identify the correct answer and mark it using the mouse available with their system. Marking scheme of these qs will be +4, -1.
- Numerical Value Type questions (NVTs) are those questions whose answers are an integer value. The candidates have to enter the answer using the virtual keyword. Marking scheme of these qs will be +4, no negative marking.
- Drawing Type Questions: There will be 2 drawing based questions in paper 2A only.

The marking scheme of JEE Main 2021 is the same as last year.
- For each correct answer, +4 marks are awarded.
- For each incorrect answer, -1 marks are deducted (Only for MCQs)
- There is no negative marking in Numerical Value Type questions
- Unanswered / Marked for Review questions lead to 0 mark.

JEE Main 2021 Language of Question Papers
As we told above, JEE Main 2021 is being held in 13 languages. However, candidates can only take the test in the language of their choice, if they apply for the same in the application form of JEE Main 2021.

- Do note that all the question papers will be available in the English and selected langues. This means that the question will be displayed in English, as well as, the chosen language.
Note: In case correctness for all the question papers, the English version of JEE Main 2021 shall be treated as final.
What is New in JEE Main 2021 Exam Pattern
Joint Entrance Examination Main 2021 is computer-based test (except the drawing test). However, the most signification change is that the exam will be held 4 times a year, in – February, March, April, and May. The new exam pattern of JEE Main is applicable for all the sessions.
1. JEE Main Papers Defined: Last year, NTA divided JEE Main Paper 2 into B.Arch Paper and B.Plan paper. Even this year, the same is applicable but now NTA has named the papers properly. These are:
- JEE Main B.Tech / B.E paper is – Paper 1
- JEE Main B.Arch paper is – Paper 2A
- JEE Main B.Plan paper is – Paper 2B
2. Number of Attempts: Though NTA has decided to conduct JEE Main 2021 four times a year but not all the papers shall be held in all the session.
- JEE Main Paper 1 will be held in Feb, Mar, Apr, and May.
- JEE Main Paper 2A and 2B will only be held in February and May.
3. Number of Question Increased: The total number of questions in JEE Main 2021 is 90 instead of 75.
- In Paper 2A the number of questions increased from 77 to 82.
- In Paper 2B the number of questions increased from 100 to 105.

4. Optional Question Introduced: Through the number of questions has increased, the candidates only need to attempt 75 questions in Paper 1. Hence, 15 questions in the exam are optional.
- In Paper 2A and 2B optional questions are only available in Mathematics (Part-I). Candidates get 10 questions and only need to attempt 5.
5. JEE Main 2021 Paper 1 Divided Into Sections: JEE Main 2021 Paper 1 has been divided into Section A and Section B. Each subject have 2 sections now.
- Section A contains Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs).
- Section B contains Numerical Value Type Question (NVTS).
6. JEE Main Now in 13 Regional Languages: Other than English, Hindi, and Gujarati, JEE shall also be held in 10 more regional language. All the languages in which JEE Main 2021 shall be held are:
- English, Hindi, Gujarati, Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu.
7. JEE Main 2021 Paper 2A and 2B Divided into Parts: This is not much of a difference. However, the question paper has been divided into parts, as shown below.

Important Preparation Tips for JEE Main 2021
The candidates can check JEE Main 2021 preparation tips from below.
- First of all, know the competition level. Every year almost 9 lakh candidates appear for JEE Main. Now, check the exam pattern properly and see what type of questions come, what is the duration of the exam ,marking scheme etc.
- Then, make a time table. Divide the study hours according to the subject for the paper in which you are appearing. Decide how many hours have to be given to each subject.
- Make a habit of preparing the notes while studying. Also, underline the important points. In these notes, you can also mention the formulas chapter-wise or topic-wise.
- Also, know practicing more and more question papers and sample papers will help in knowing your strong and weak areas of study. Keep the track of time while solving the questions. You can also maintain a log where all your weak areas are mentioned.
- Give mock tests as much as you can. This will enable you to know how the exam is conducted. Moreover, by practicing mock test, you will know the basics of a computer-based test.
- Take small breaks in between your studies. With this, also maintain your diet, sleep schedule etc.

About JEE Main 2021
Joint Entrance Examination (Main) is national level engineering as well as architecture examination. There are total papers in JEE Main. Paper is for B.E. / B.Tech and Paper 2A is for B.Arch, whereas, Paper 2B is for B.Planning.
After qualifying Paper 1, the candidates can take admission in NITs, CFTIs, IIITs. After qualifying JEE Main, the candidates also take admission in AKTU. The raw marks obtained by the candidates in different session is converted to NTA score.
