Eligibility Criteria For JEE Advanced 2021

It has been officially announced that the 75% criteria will not be applicable in JEE Advanced 2021.

The official information brochure for the JEE Advanced 2021 is yet to be published by the corresponding conducting IIT. However, if the criteria remains same as last time then five crucial eligibility criteria must be satisfied by all candidates who are willing to appear for the JEE Advanced 2021 exam. These are as follows.

Criterion 1

The applicant has to rank among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in the B.E./B.Tech paper of JEE Main 2020.

Criterion 2

Applicants have to be within the specified age limit in order to apply for the exam. They should be born on or after October 1, 1996 (exact cut off date to be announced by IIT KGP).

Criterion 3

Candidates are allowed only two attempts in two consecutive years in the JEE (Advanced). Those who have surpassed the maximum number of attempts are therefore ineligible.

Criterion 4

Applicants of JEE Advanced must have appeared in Class 12th or equivalent examination. They must have appeared in such an exam for the first time with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

Criterion 5

The applicant must not have been admitted to an IIT before. This is irrespective of whether they accepted the admission by reporting to the designated institute in the past or continued in the program. Candidates whose IIT admission was cancelled in the past after joining any IIT are not eligible to apply for the JEE Advanced 2021 examination.

Special chance for candidates who missed JEE Advanced 2020 due to COVID!

Candidates who were declared as qualified to appear in the JEE-ADV 2020, had also registered for it, but could not appear in last year’s IIT JEE exam due to being COVID-19 positive, will be allowed to appear in IIT JEE ADV 2021. There will be no need for such candidates to appear and qualify in JEE Main 2021.

Study Tips For JEE Advanced 2021

Here are some useful preparation tips for the JEE Advanced 2021 exam. Although everyone has their own preparation strategy, these tips can be generally followed to prepare for the exam in an effective manner.

  • Focus on calculation and manipulation techniques.
  • Make a habit of reading. The questions are lengthy in the question paper, so improve reading interpretation habit.
  • Understand the concepts properly of each topic. JEE Advanced paper tests the presence of the candidates, hence it is necessary to understand the concepts.

Other important tips

Know the syllabus – Before one can start studying for the JEE Advanced 2021 exam, it is important that the syllabus is available. The syllabus is published in the official information brochure and aspiring candidates must refer to this at first to have a clear idea of what to study.

Develop a study schedule – Candidates are advised to devise a study schedule that spans the entire time before the exam and includes all the important topics. Do not forget to leave out slots for revision. Do not forget to check that all the important topics from the syllabus are covered in the study schedule.

Refer to smart learning materials – In the same essence of the popular saying, work smarter, not harder, candidates are often advised to refer to previous year question papers and solve mock tests. Question papers can help analyse the pattern of the exam, distribution of marks and understand the type & nature of questions. On the other hand, mock tests are indispensable when it comes to preparing for the exam and devising time management strategies.

Do not forget to periodically revise – This is one of the most important activities that a candidate must regularly indulge in. Without revising topics that have already been studied, there remains a strong possibility that the candidate might forget it in due course of time. Do not forget to brush up on important topics regularly.

Make short notes and practice – Reading a textbook is simply not enough when it comes to cracking an exam of the level of JEE Advanced 2021. One must continuously take short notes and write down important facts and figures to memorize them effectively. In addition, when it comes to solving mathematical problems and science numerical, there is no other alternative to pen and paper-based practice.
