IMU CET 2021 – Indian Maritime University will conduct Common Entrance Test (IMU CET) in June/July 2021 for admission to UG and PG Courses. In the current pandemic situation, the university conducts IMU CET as online entrance test in batches to maintain social distancing. IMU was established in 2008 under the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India with its headquarters in Chennai. Through the IMU CET exam, candidates are offered admission to various courses like B.Tech, B.Sc, BBA, B.Sc, DNS, M.Tech, MBA, M.Sc etc. Interested candidates must satisfy the eligibility criteria. About the Indian Maritime University
The Indian Maritime University also called IMU was established on 14th November 2008 as teaching-cum-affiliating university. It has its headquarters in Chennai. The university offers maritime studies, training, and research. It mainly focuses on areas like oceanography, environmental studies, maritime history, and laws, maritime security, transportation of dangerous cargo, and other related fields. Eligibility Criteria for IMU CET 2021
The eligibility criteria are the most important factor in the undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Candidates who are willing to apply must check the eligibility criteria. The criteria include the age limit, educational qualifications, physical fitness, eye-sight etc. Hence, the applicants can check the eligibility criteria for all the courses below.
Under the Nautical Sciences program, two courses are offered- 3-Year B.Sc Nautical Science, and 1-Year DNS Programme (2 batches, August and February of every year). The B.Sc Nautical Sciences courses are offered in Chennai, Navi Mumbai, and Cochin campus. DNS programme is offered in Navi Mumbai and Chennai campus.
Common Eligibility Criteria
- Only unmarried candidates are eligible for DNS and B.Sc (Nautical Science).
- Candidates must have a passport. The name must be the same as given in the 10th class certificate.
Age-Limit Criteria
- The minimum age of the candidate (general category) and lateral entry is 18 years and the maximum age of the candidate is 25 years as on 5th October 2021.
- Age relaxation of 5 years is applicable for SC/ST category.
Educational Qualifications
- Candidates have to score a minimum of 60% marks in PCM in 10th and 12th examination. The minimum passing marks in English subject must be 50% marks.
- 5% relaxation is applicable in the eligibility marks for SC/ST category. It is not applied for English marks.
- However, 5% relaxation is applicable in English for the native candidates of Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar islands (who belong to SC/ST category).
Candidates must note that the above age and educational qualification criteria are applicable for the following programmes: School of Nautical Sciences, School of Marine Engineering and Technology, School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, School of Maritime Management.
IMU CET BBA Eligibility Criteria
The criteria for the BBA Course is entirely different than other courses. The admission of the applicants is not through the Common Entrance Test. The selection of the candidates is done based on the merit scores.
- Candidates must have passed 12th class exam from a recognized Board/University. They have to upload their mark sheet while filling the application form.
- Applicants who are waiting for their 12th class results can edit the marks and upload the scanned copy of the mark sheet later. While registering, they have to select the “Awaiting Results” option.
- Candidates who have applied for BBA and are also interested in other UG Programs have to fill the separate application form and pay fees separately.
IMU CET Postgraduate Eligibility Criteria
IMU offers postgraduate courses under the following schools- School of Marine Engineering and Technology, School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, School of Maritime Management and School of Nautical Sciences.
Age Criteria
- There is no age restriction to apply for IMU CET PG Courses. However, the age limit for PGDME course is 28 years with an age relaxation of 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC/ST, and additional 2 years for female candidates.
- Candidates must be an engineering graduate in Mechanical/Civil/Marine/Naval Architecture with a minimum qualifying mark of 60% marks.
- 5% age relaxation is applicable for the reserved category candidates.
- Candidates who have qualified GATE/GRE are exempted from IMU-CET 2021. These applicants are considered for admissions against residuary seats.
IMU CET MBA Eligibility Criteria
The School of Maritime Management offers two courses- MBA Programme in Port and Shipping Management and International Transportation and Logistics Management. The eligibility criteria are as follows-
- Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognized university.
- The minimum qualifying marks in English subject must be 50% in 10th, 12th, and UG Degree.
- There is no age restriction.
- 5% relaxation is applicable to the eligibility marks. However, it is not applicable to English subjects.
Medical Fitness (Physical Fitness, EyeSight) Criteria
Candidates who are willing to take admissions in DNS, B.Sc Nautical Sciences, B.Tech in Marine Engineering and PGDME must be physically fit and must satisfy all the requirements as specified by the authority. Whereas, candidates seeking admission for Non-Marine programmes have to submit a Physical Fitness Certificate from a registered medical practitioner.
IMU CET Application Form 2021
The registration process for IMU CET 2021 starts in the month of April. Candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria are eligible to fill the application form. The mode of filling and submitting the application form is online. The university releases separate application form for the BBA and UG and PG Courses. Candidates who submit the IMU B.Tech/BBA application form successfully can appear the entrance test.
How to Apply for IMU CET 2021?
The step by step process to fill the IMU CET entrance application form are as follows-
- Candidates have to first visit the official website and click on the application link.
- New candidates have to register first. For the registration process, the applicants have to provide their basic details such name, date of birth, mobile number, e-mail id etc.
- After the completion of the registration, the applicant receives a registered user id and password. Now, they have login using the credentials to complete the rest of the details.
- Fill in the other details such as personal, educational details, etc.
- Candidates can select upto three exam centre preferences in the application form.
- After filling all the details, upload the photograph and signature. The photo must be taken on or after 1st January 2021. It should have the name and date of birth at the bottom section of the photograph.
- Then candidates have to make the payment of the application form and submit it.
Application Fees of IMU CET 2021
The application fees of BBA application form and UG/PG form is different. Candidates who have applied for BBA but are interested to apply for B.Tech or M.Tech programs have to fill the separate application form. The fee costs (as per last year’s data) are provided below.
- The application fee cost for UG (B.Tech) and PG courses is Rs 1000/- for General, OBC-NCL candidates. SC/ST candidates have to pay Rs 700/- for registration.
- The registration fees for BBA admission is Rs 200/- for General/OBC candidates and Rs 140 for SC/ST applicants.
The application fees are non-refundable and have to be paid online through Internet banking, credit or debit card.

IMU CET Admit Card 2021
IMU CET Admit Card releases a week before the date of the exam. Candidates who are appearing the entrance test have to download the admit card from the official website. The admit card can be downloaded online only. To download the hall ticket, the applicants have to enter the application number and password. The admit card carries complete details of the exam and the candidate.
How to download the IMU CET Hall Ticket?
The step by step process to check to download the hall ticket is as follows-
- Candidates have to first visit the official website of the imu.edu.in
- Then click on the hall ticket link available on the homepage.
- Enter the application number and password and submit.
- The hall ticket is then displayed on the screen.
- Check all the details carefully and download the exam admit card.
- Take the printout of the hall ticket.
IMU CET Result 2021
The exam conducting body releases the IMU CET Result online soon after the completion of the examination. Applicants can check their result by submitting the login credentials. The result shows the qualification status of the candidates. The result is sent to the candidates through SMS and email.
IMU Counselling 2021
The university conducts the counselling process soon after the release of the result. The counselling is conducted online in two phases to offer admission to its six campuses.
- In the first phase, the conducting body releases a rank certificate on the portal. Candidates whose name is on the rank list have to select the programmes, and register themselves by paying a counselling fee of Rs 10,000/-.
- In the phase II counselling process, based on the rank, social category of the applicant, and availability of the seats, the candidates are allotted seats.
- After the allotment of the seats, the candidates have to pay a program fee of Rs 25,000 (non-refundable).
- Candidates who confirm their seats are issued with a Provisional Allotment Letter which has to be produced along with mark sheets, certificates etc. at the time of verification.
- Candidates can select as many choices they want at the time of counselling registration.
