The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has urged to expedite NEET PG 2021 exam and admission process. Report on this has come shortly after NBE’s decision to postpone the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduate admissions. As per reports, IMA wants medical admission processes of not only NEET PG, but also FMGE to be done quickly; and they have a valid reason for it. Read on to know the full story.
IMA on NEET PG 2021
As per latest reports in Live Mint, and other leading dailies, Indian Medical Association, a national voluntary organisation of Doctors of Modern Scientific System of Medicine in India, has urged the central government to expedite medical admission processes.
The reason behind their request is simple – to quickly increase the medical professionals manpower which is the need of the hour.
Urgent Need of Medical Professionals – Reason Behind Need To Expedite Admission Processes
Amidst the global pandemic and India is hitting more than 2.6 lakhs COVID-19 patient’s inflow, the need of the hour is more medical manpower. In the coming days, the COVID-19 patient count is likely to reach the peak of 3.5 to 4 lakhs (and it may be already so at the time of you reading this).
NEET PG 2021 was scheduled to be held on April 18, 2021. As of now, there is no clarity on what the new exam date can be. As per DBMCI, exam date will be after June 1, 2021.
Here is how quick admission process can help the healthcare sector:
- A total of 1,74,886 candidates have registered for NEET PG 2021.
- Many of these doctors (MBBS degree holders) are not practicing as they need to prepare for the exam.
- Also, once exam is over, the qualified candidates can join PG courses and be help in the hospitals.
- After the exam, those who do not get admission in PG courses, according to IMA, will join hospitals as resident doctors. This would also be a huge help in the current shortage of manpower.
The situation is alarming – the number of COVID patients is increasing everyday and there is no rise in medical assistance. Hence IMA wants the government and NBE to accelerate NEET PG 2021.
IMA says “the entire process of admissions can be completed within a month’s time if real concentrated efforts are taken, which is the need of the hour”
There are 1,74,886 future doctors awaiting the NEET PG 2021 exams for admission in PG medical courses across the nation. Of them, around 45000 postgraduate residents will be in the front line of the battle to safeguard the patients in this time of need. Candidates will also be joining as junior residents.
Dr. Jayesh Lele, Hony. Secretary IMA Hospital Board of India, said:
“While the daily turnover of more than 2.6 lakhs patient’s inflow and it is likely to reach the peak of 3.5 to 4 lakhs within next two weeks, we are in acute need of more qualified doctors to man this treacherous service. The NEET PG exams are postponed citing the reasons of covid-19, which has hampered the process of getting nearly 45000 postgraduate residents who are always in the front line of the battle to safeguard the patients,”Dr. Jayesh Lele
The need of medical staff is increasing day by day. Conducting medical entrance exams will allow this need to fulfil upto some extent. Most of the medical colleges and Universities have also postponed final year UG exam. Due to this, internships are also delayed. As per IMA, this shortage can be removed by holding the exam by putting a focused effort.
