GATE 2022 Exam Guidelines – The GATE 2022 exam is being held on February 5, 6, 12 and 13, 2022. It is extremely important for candidates to know the guidelines that they need to follow on the exam day. These guidelines were released by IIT Kharagpur on their official website gate.iitkgp.ac.in. IIT KGP has also released a video for elaborating the code of conduct that will be required to follow by GATE 2022 aspirants on the day of the exam. The rules that the examination staff will follow is also elaborated in the video. Keeping in mind the COVID – 19 situation, these guidelines were updated. GATE 2022 Exam Day Instructions for COVID – 19

  • Candidates must ensure to provide a safe and secure environment for all test staff.
  • Use the touch fee process where necessary.
  • Implementation of social distance system.
  • Adherence to guidelines and procedures issued by the Government of India.
  • Integration of safety measures with existing testing procedures.

GATE 2022 Pre-Exam preventive measures for Covid-19

  • To avoid the crowd at the venue, you must arrive at the test site at least 90 minutes before the start of the test schedule.
  • Follow the rows of ropes and floor markings when standing in rows outside the gate.
  • Students’ body temperature will be checked by thermo reader at the entrance point. If a student’s body temperature exceeds 99.4F, the test should be taken in an isolated area of the test site.
  • After you enter the test venue, at the time of registration for the GATE exam you will be examined at a distance by the exam staff along with a valid entry form and original ID proof.
  • The bar code reader will be used to check the entrance and provide your lab number, then you will be directed to your private lab.
  • Then when you enter the test lab, an examiner will check your admission card and ID proof at a safe distance.
  • You will only be able to carry items such as masks, gloves, personal hand sanitizer, a pen or pencil, transparent water bottle, test papers documents like admission card, ID proof inside the test lab.
  • You will then be able to enter the lab, after which you will be directed to the registration desk to take pictures.
  • For the photography process, students must first remove the mask, then stand up straight, and maintain eye-level contact with the webcam to capture a clean face.
  • When you complete your registration, the test staff member will guide you to your designated computer system.

GATE 2022 During Examination Preventive Measures for COVID – 19

  • A staff member will ask you to sign your candidate roll list with which they will compare your admit card.
  • The ID proof number of a candidate will be matched with the details of ID proof provided by the candidate while applying for the examination.
  • You will be disqualified from the test if you take unfair action, including giving or receiving help during the test.

GATE 2022 Post Exam Preventive Measure for COVID -19

  • At the end of a shift, you are allowed to exit properly.
  • Students can leave the test lab only if the test staff member allows them to leave.
  • Ensure that you do not keep any resources in the test lab such as masks, sanitizers, pen etc.
  • When you leave the test lab, drop the scribble pad into a drop box.
  • Keep the necessary distance between yourself without crowding anywhere.
  • Test staff members are on the exit route to ensure your orderly movement.

GATE 2022 Things Allowed Inside the Exam Hall

The following things are allowed to be taken inside the hall. Other than the things listed below, nothing else can be taken inside.

  • Mask
  • Gloves
  • Personal hand sanitizer bottle
  • A simple pen or pencil
  • Personal transparent water bottle
  • Exam related documents such as admit card, valid id proof etc.

Things not Permissible to Carry

  1. Personal Calculators 
  2. Any type of Watches
  3. Wallets
  4. Mobile Phones or Electronic/Communication Device 
  5. Any type of Charts/Tables/Papers/Chits

All candidates must note that the conducting authorities of the GATE 2022 Examination will not be held responsible for the safe-keeping of the candidate’s personal belongings. 

Virtual Calculators Details

Virtual Calculators will be provided on the computer screen throughout the duration of the examination. These will be fully capable of answering the level of questions that will be asked in the examination. Candidates can use this feature throughout the examination, there is no need for any candidate to carry any kind of calculator with them. 

Scribble Pad Details

All candidates will be provided to the candidates for their rough work for the examination. Before the candidates commence the examination and start with their rough work, they must fill out their important details on the scribble pad which are :

  1. Name of the Candidate
  2. Registration Number

Please note that a candidate can possess ONLY one scribble pad at any point in time. If in case a candidate needs another scribble pad MUST be returned to the invigilator. The scribble pad in the candidate’s possession must be returned to the invigilator at the end of the examination.

GATE 2022 Admit Card

All candidates will be provided with an admit card prior to the examination, which contains crucial details of the given candidate. Those details are as follows :

  1. Registration Number/ID of the Candidate
  2. Name of the Candidate 
  3. GATE 2022 Subject Opted 
  4. Photo of the Candidate
  5. Official ID details 
  6. Date and Time of the Examination
  7. Details of the Examination Center

It is crucial to note that all candidates must have their admit card with them at the time of the examination, as no candidate will be allowed entry without their admit card.

GATE 2022 Examination Day – Documentation to be Carried with Admit Card

To enter the examination hall, all candidates must produce valid identity proof with them for their verification. All candidates are allowed to bring the original copy of ANY ONE valid photo Identity Document (IDs) as follows :

  1. Aadhar-UID (Preferable)
  2. Passport
  3. PAN Card
  4. Voter ID
  5. Driving License

Please note that NO candidate will be permitted to take the examination, in case the admit card and the same valid original photo identification document are not presented at the examination center. Both the ID provided during the registration and presented at the time of the examination must be the same.

For all international candidates, ONLY a valid Passport/Government issued ID/Driving License will be accepted as the recognized identification document.

GATE 2022 Exam Day Time Guidelines

The below-given pointers describe the guidelines about the timings of the examination, which all candidates must follow :

  • The entire examination duration is 3 hours (180 minutes).
  • Candidates are permitted to occupy their allotted seats 40 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the examination. 
  • All Candidates can login and start reading the instructions 20 minutes prior to the start of the examination.
  • Any late login recorded by the computer system MUST NOT be beyond 30 minutes from the actual start of the examination. Under no circumstances, will any candidate be permitted to login post 30 minutes from the actual examination starting time of the examination.

Candidates will NOT be permitted to leave the examination hall before the end of the examination.
