GATE 2021: Scorecard (Released), Result, Cut Off, Toppers

GATE 2021: IIT Bombay has released a scorecard for GATE 2021 on March 27, 2021, and it can be downloaded without paying any fee till 30 June 2021. It has been uploaded under GOAPS, at Enrollment id/email address and password are needed to download the scorecard. Link to download the scorecard is also available on this page below. GATE is the national level engineering entrance exam for admission to PG programs M.Tech, ME, Ph.D. PSUs also recruit candidates on the basis of GATE score. GATE 2021 Result

The GATE result is calculated on the basis of the final Answer key published on the official website, once all the challenges against the answer key have been resolved. Candidates can download the result by using login id and password from GOAPS.

Downloading the GATE 2021 Scorecard

Only those candidates who score more than or equal to the qualifying marks are able to download their GATE Scorecards. The scorecardsis available for download online one week after the declaration of the results. The candidates are advised to keep a printout of their Scorecards for future procedures of admissions and/or recruitment.

Note: The GATE Scorecard is valid for a period of three years.

GATE Score calculation: All the candidates who qualify the exam are given a Scorecard based on their relative performance in the exam. The formula to calculate the score (out of 1000 marks) for both the multi-session normalized marks and raw marks is given below:

GATE 2021 Answer Key

The official answer keys and question papers has been released by IIT Bombay. Get both here.

GATE 2021 official answer key is released by IIT Bombay. GATE answer key is available for all 27 papers, which are CE, IN, CY, PH, AR, BM, AE, MN, EE, GG, AG, EY, EC, PE, ES, ST, PI, etc. Before the official answer key comes out a few days after the exam, on the same day as the exam, unofficial or memory-based answer key is made available. The unofficial answer key is prepared by the experts of the exam.

The official answer key is open for challenge. Candidates have to login at GOAPS to check and challenge the answer keys. On the basis of the challenges received, IITB compiles a fresh set of answer keys, this one will be the final one. The result is compiled on the basis of the final answer key only.

Candidates who will appear for GATE exam on 6th February have been issued a support letter. The purpose of this letter is to help you reach exam center in case you face issues due to road blocks due to farmer protest or bharath bandh on that day.

GATE 2021 Admit Card

The admit card of GATE 2021 is available for download from January 8, 2021. Get here.

All candidates who register for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering can download the admit card as per schedule. The important things to know about it are as follows. 

  • Candidates can download the admit card from GOAPS candidate login.
  • To download the GATE admit card 2021, candidates need to go to and login with enrolment id, password. 
  • After logging in, they can see the admit card download tab (from the date of release of admit card to the exam date).
  • It is important to download and print the admit card prior to the exam date. 
  • The exam center assigned to candidate is mentioned in the GATE admit card 2021.
  • Also, important exam day guidelines are provided in it.

GATE 2021 Exam Day Guidelines

With the exam at the doorstep, along with the preparation, make sure to check out these exam day guidelines:

  • Carry a printed copy of GATE admit card along with the original (not photocopy or scanned copy) valid photo identification proof which is mentioned in the admit card as well.
  • Candidates must bring their own pen, pencil, transparent water bottle, and pocket size hand sanitizer. Without a proper face mask in place, the entry of the candidate into the examination center shall be prohibited.
  • Asymptomatic candidates, if any, who have a temperature higher than 99.4°F, will not be allowed inside the exam hall.
  • Candidates must report at the examination venue at least 60 minutes before the scheduled commencement of the examination.
  • Candidates should NOT bring any charts/tables/papers/books/sheets into the examination hall.
  • A scribble pad will be provided for the rough work. Before using it, candidates must write their individual names and registration number. At the end of the examination, the scribble pad must be returned to the invigilator.
  • Personal calculators, any kind of watches, wallets, mobile phones, or any other electronic/communication devices are not allowed inside the examination hall.

Syllabus of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering has been revised.

Changes in GATE syllabus – The syllabus of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering being held in 2021 is different from previous years. Some topics have been added from the syllabus of each paper. Whereas some topics have been removed from the syllabus of each paper. Therefore, candidates must refer to the new syllabus and not refer to the old syllabus.

The exact date and shifts for each paper is known as the GATE exam schedule. Normalization is applicable on the papers that take place on multiple days or shifts.

GATE 2021 Mock Tests

IIT Bombay has activated links for GATE mock tests at To take this mock test, candidates do not need to login. They simply need to click the link and a dummy registration data appears on the login, and they can simply proceed from there. This mock test is helpful in understanding the computer based test format. Questions in official mock test are only for reference purpose, and not to be considered as sample paper. Other than the official mock test, free mock test is also available on Aglasem. Candidates are recommended to take multiple mock tests to amp up their preparation.

What After GATE 2021 Exam?

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level exam. It is conducted by IITs and IISc in rotation, on behalf of National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. There are 2 main pathways through the exam

#1 – Admission to M.Tech program#2 – Recruitment in PSUs
It is necessary to qualify GATE for admission and/or financial assistance to the following  – (a) Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering / Technology / Architecture (b) Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Arts and Science, in the institutions supported by the MoE and other Government agencies
Scholarship / Assistantship for Postgraduate Programs – In order to get scholarship or assistance, you need to (i) Get admission in a central government supported institute (ii) Follow the norms applicable to the institution for assistance.
A number of Public Sector Undertakings accept GATE scores for recruitment of management trainees, graduate trainees, engineering trainees, and likewise posts. The most prominent names in PSU recruitment through GATE are:

Qs 1. Will GATE 2021 be postponed?

Ans 1. No. Until now there is no official notice regarding postponement of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2021.

Qs 2. How many candidates are appearing for GATE 2021?

Ans 2. A total of 8,82,684 candidates have applied for GATE 2021. Last year the number of applicants was 8.59 lakh. 

Qs 3. Will there be negative marking in GATE exam?

Ans 3. Yes, there will be negative marking. The questions of +1 mark have a negative marking of -⅓. And the 2 mark questions have negative marking of -⅔.

Qs 4. Will we get paper to do rough work?

Ans 4. Yes, you will get a scribble pad to do rough work during the exam. You should return this before leaving the exam hall. 

Qs 5. What is a valid GATE 2021 admit card?

Ans 5. The GATE 2021 admit card is valid if and only if your photograph and signature images are clear and legible. The photograph on the admit card and that in the valid photo identity document should match with your appearance on the day of examination.

Qs 6. What should i carry with me to the examination hall?

Ans 6. You should bring a print-out of the downloaded GATE 2021 admit card along with the original and valid photo identity document which was specified during the filling up of the online application. For Indian candidates, only following identification cards will be accepted: Aadhaar-UID, Passport, PAN card, Voter ID, College ID, Employee ID and Driving License. For International candidates, ONLY a valid Passport/Government issued ID/College ID/Employee ID will be accepted as the recognized identification.
