GATE 2021 Exam Day Guidelines: Reporting, Temp, Documents, Safety

The GATE 2021 Exam Day Guidelines have been published by IIT Bombay. The national level exam, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, is all set to be conducted amidst rising demands to postpone it. The exam will be held over four days, in two shifts each, on February 06, 07, 13 and 14, 2021. Since the exam is being held amid the pandemic, IITB has released GATE exam day guidelines. These are set of rules which are in sync with the COVID-19 exam guidelines provided by the Govt. of India. Candidates who shall be appearing for GATE 2021 must know these exam day guideline in advance.

GATE 2021 exam day guidelines has been prepare to ensure the safety of the students, institute Representative, and the conducting staff. These guidelines are majorly for protection fro COVID and shall keep you safe in the exam hall. So, do follow these.

GATE 2021 Exam Day Guidelines

Keeping in mind the global scenario of the COVID-19 pandemic, the official authority has categorized the GATE 2021 exam day instructions into 3 categories which are:

  • Pre-Examination Preventive Measure for COVID-19
  • During Examination Preventive Measures for COVID-19
  • Post Examination Preventive Measures for COVID-19

A. Pre-Examination Measures

Reporting at the venue: The candidates are requested to report at least 01 hour before the commencement of the examination in order to avoid crowding at the venue. Also, at the center, follow the rope queues and floor marks outside the entry gate.

Note: Delayed entry is not allowed at the exam centre and the candidates are required to login NOT later than 30 minutes from the starting of the examination.

Temperature Check: The temperature of all the candidates shall be checked at the entry gate with the help of a Thermo gun. Those candidates who have a body temperature of more than 99.4 degrees shall have to give the examination from an isolation area set within the exam centre premises only.

Checking by the exam staff: After the entry into the exam venue, the candidate’s admit card and original valid id proof shall be checked by the examination staff from a safe distance. The admit card number shall be checked by bar code guns. After this, the candidates are provided their respective lab number.

Entry in the exam centre lab: Once the candidates enter their respective exam centre lab, the exam staff will check their GATE 2021 admit card and original id proof.

Photograph capture: After entering the exam lab, the candidates will be guided to the registration desk for the capturing of photograph. During the photo capture process, the candidates need to remove their masks and stand straight so as to maintain the eye level with the webcam.

Allotted computer terminals: Once the registration is done, the exam staff member shall guide the candidates to their allotted computer system number.

B. During Examination Measures

Signature on the roll number list: Once the candidates are settled, a staff member will approach them to sign the roll number list. He / she will also compare the candidate’s signature as mentioned in the valid id proof. The id proof number will also be matched as present in the id proof.

Disqualification: If any candidate is found to be using any unfair means during the exam shall be disqualified. This also includes giving / receiving any help during the exam.

Other Important Details

Virtual Scientific Calculator: A virtual scientific calculator shall be available on the computer screen at the time of the examination. Other than this any personal calculators are not allowed.

Scribble Pad: In order to the rough work, the candidates are provided the scribble pad. The candidates are required to mention their name and registration number before using it. Only 1 scribble pad can be used at any point of time. However, before taking the second scribble pad (if required), the candidates have to return their previous one.

No arrangement for candidate’s personal belongings: The candidates must keep in mind that no arrangements for keeping the candidate’s personal belongings shall be made at the exam centre. If the candidates bring mobile phones then they must be kept outside the examination hall at their own risk. GATE officials shall not be responsible for keeping the candidate’s personal belongings safe.

C. Post Examination Measures

Move out in an appropriate manner: After the completion of the exam, the candidates are required to move out from the examination centre in an orderly manner. The candidates can leave the exam lab only after the exam staff member allow them to.

Do not leave any personal belongings in the exam lab: The candidates are advised to not leave any of their personal belongings in the exam lab after the completion of the exam. This includes mask, hand sanitizer, pen, mask etc.

Drop the scribble pad and admit card in the box: The candidates are required to drop the admit card and scribble pad in the respective drop box present at the exam centre.

Exit properly: Make sure to exit from the exam centre in the proper manner. To ensure orderly movement, the exam staff will also be present.

What to Carry Inside GATE 2021 Exam Lab?

The most important are the documents and things that you need to carry on exam because only after showing these, entry in the exam hall is provided. The list of what you can carry on the exam day is as follows:

  1. Mask
  2. Gloves
  3. Personal pocket size hand sanitizer bottle
  4. A simple ball point pen or pencil
  5. Exam related documents like printed copy admit card on the proper A4 size paper, original id proof etc

Valid id proofs accepted

For Indian Nationals: Aadhard card / Passport / PAn card / Voter id / College id / Employee id / Driving License.

For International Candidates: Only a valid passport / govt. issued id / college id / employee ids

Things Prohibited at GATE 2021 Exam Centre

You must also know what you cannot carry inside the exam hall. The following items are strictly prohibited.

About GATE 2021

GATE is a computer-based test that is held for admission into programmes like ME, M.E, M.Arch Ph.D. On the basis of GATE 2021 result, admission will be offered in IITs, NITs, IIITs, CFTIs. It is held for a total of 27 subjects. The duration of the exam is 3 hours. The test comprises of multiple-choice questions, multiple-select questions, and numerical answer type questions. GATE is national-level examination whose scores are also used for PSU recruitment.
