Republic Day is celebrated on 26th January every year, country wide. On this day in the year 1950, the constitution of India was formally adopted and since then, India is known as a completely sovereign country. The Constitution of India was enacted out of the patience, strategies and hard work of Father of Nation, who is, Mahatma Gandhi and other numerous freedom fighters who fought and sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country. In the year 1950, The Constitution of India replaced Government of India Act, which was given in year 1935. Since then, every year, all the brothers and sisters celebrate 26 January as Republic Day.

The major Republic Day celebration is hosted in the national capital of India, New Delhi, at the Rajpath. On this day, ceremonious parades take place at the Rajpath, which are performed as a tribute to our beautiful country’s unity in diversity and rich cultural heritage.

The Republic Day parade 2022 will showcase 17 military bands, 16 marching contingents, and 25 tableaux from various states, departments, and the armed forces of our country, Hindustan.

Republic Day parade marches from the Rashtrapati Bhawan along the Rajpath, to India Gate and from there, goes to Red Fort. It opens with the unfurling of our tricolour National Flag by the President of India, who is, Ram Nath Kovind. This is followed by marching from our Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with their bands. Tableaus from various states significantly displays their own cultures. A beating retreat ceremony will be hosted on 29th January 2022, which will signify the end of the Republic Day parade.

On Republic Day celebration, every year chief guests are invited to the parade. This year, The president of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan are invited as chief guest for Republic Day 2022.

On the eve of 26th January, the President of India distributes Padma Awards to several civilians of the country every year. These three awards are the second highest civilian awards in India, after Bharat Ratna. These three awards refer to, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.

  • Padma Vibhushan is awarded for “exceptional and unique service”. Padma Vibhushan is the second highest civilian award in Hindustan.
  • Padma Bhushan is awarded  for “distinguished service of a high order”. Padma Bhushan is the third highest civilian award in Hindustan.

We celebrate 26th January as Republic Day, every year as on this day, in year 1950,India became a Sovereign Democratic Republic. Sovereign means a country which is internally supreme and independent. Democracy refers to “government of the people, by the people and for the people.” In a Republic, the Head of a country doesn’t come from hereditary. He is elected by the people or their representatives, for country’s welfare.

The day of 26th January is very important for Hindustan and it’s citizens. The Constitution of India was also formulated and came into action on this day. 26th January has played a very important role in Indian citizen’s freedom and independence.

In Republic Day Parade, Numerous tanks, guns, missiles, rockets, bombs etc. Are shown. The names and particulars of each and every weapon are visibly written on both sides of the carriers. People feel proud that these weapons were produced in India, and were used by Indian citizens, in need.

After this, there will be contingents of school girls and boys, who will be wearing colourful dresses, singing in chorus the famous patriotic song “Sare Jahan se Achcha, Hindustan Hamara”. It would be a moment of pride of Indian citizens. Prize distribution also occurs during Republic Day Parade. Chief guests are also invited to Republic Day parade at Rajghat, to do Flag Hosting ceremony. The Republic Day parade ends with our National Anthem, which was written by Rabindranath Tagore.

On 29th January, Beating Retreat is hosted at Rajghat, in which the bands of the three services, i. e. Army, Navy and Air Force plays melodious tunes and presents thrilling formations., in order to end Republic Day celebrations for this year.

History of Republic Day 

On 26th January 1950, the constitution of India came into existence. The constitution was duly adopted by the Indian Constituency Assembly on 26 November 1949 and came into force on 26 January, i.e. one year after. Ever since after that, 26th January is celebrated as Republic Day.
