GATE 2021 exam starts tomorrow, on February 06, 2021. This is the time when all the aspirants of the exam are giving finishing touches to their preparation. We understand that you cannot spare much time for other things apart from revision and practice, but here are 7 important things that you must know before appearing for GATE 2021.
#1. The schedule of the exam
GATE 2021 is being held for 27 papers. Now each paper will be held as per the specified time and date by the IIT Bombay. CE, IN, CY, PH, AR, BM, AE, MN will be held on February 6, 2021. EE, GG, AG, EY, EC, PE, ES, ST, PI will be held on February 7, 2021. CS, MA, BT, CH, TF, XE, XL is scheduled to be held on February 13, 2021, and ME, XH, MT will be held on the last day that is February 14, 2021.
Additionally, each day there will be 2 shifts. This year CE, CS and ME will be held in 2 shifts. Rest all other papers will be held in one shift. Shift 1 will be held from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and the shift will be held from 3 pm to 6 pm.
#2. Admit card and Id proof
The candidates have to carry the printed copy of the admit card. However, the admit card will not be valid if not accompanied by an original and non-expired id card. The ID card to be carried must be one mentioned in the GATE 2021 admit card, and it should not be a scanned one or photocopied one.
#3. COVID-19 guidelines for GATE 2021 exam
Candidates have to carry their own pen, pencil, transparent water bottle, and pocket size hand sanitizer. Without a proper face mask in place, the entry of the candidate into the examination center will be prohibited.Asymptomatic candidates, if any, who have a temperature higher than 99.4°F, will not be allowed inside the exam hall.
#4. Do not carry these items at the exam centre
Candidates should NOT bring any charts / tables / papers / books / sheets, mobile phone or any electronic gadget, good items, etc. into the examination hall.
#5. Reporting at the exam centre
Candidates must report at the examination venue at least 60 minutes before the scheduled commencement of the examination. Which means candidates with exam in shift 1 have to report at the exam hall at 8:30 am and for shift 2, the reporting time is 2 pm.
#6. Locate your exam centre a day before the exam
GATE 2021 exam centre is allotted via the admit card and it is safe that the candidates must locate the centre a day before exam. Check the travel time, convenience and routes available to french the exam centre from your location. Check COVID-19 related restrictions if any at your location and also at the exam centre area.
#7. Have a good rest a day before the exam
The candidates must not burn night oil a day before the exam. For your mind to be 100% active on the exam day, make sure to give it proper rest. Get a sleep of 7-8 hours before the exam.
GATE will be computer based test of 3 hours for 27 subjects, with 10 questions on GA and 85 on the subject-specific syllabus. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is the national level engineering entrance exam for admission to PG programs like M.Tech, ME, Ph.D. in the IITs and other GATE score accepting colleges. In addition, the scores of GATE exam are also used for recruitment in PSUs.
